QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY
HEIGHT: 11.5CM
The tool vase is made from a cylindrical block of zitan, deeply undercut in high relief with a writhing bifid-tailed chilong dragon clambering on the base of a tree trunk flanked by branches of pine, prunus and bamboo. The trunk has a small hollow on top forming the vase and is further embellished with jade rockwork and finger citrus as well as a pine spindle in stained green ivory. The surface is well-patinated and covered with a thin layer of lacquer.
